Assistant Fire Chief Jerry Siggs says flames were coming from the back of the property as crews heard reports of multiple people still inside.

“Two of the occupants managed to get themselves out under their own power, and our crews managed to rescue one person and a dog from a portion of the home that was not on fire,” Siggs told 1130 NewsRadio.

He says the fire didn’t spread to neighbouring structures, but the home “suffered considerable damage.”

One person displaced by the fire needed emergency social services to find a place to stay.

Jun Yong in the 1130 NewsRadio Air Patrol helicopter reported that the fire was mostly out around 8:10 a.m.

Siggs said crews were still on scene as of 10 a.m., extinguishing hot spots and making way for investigators to determine the cause.
