“The two officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were both taken to hospital for treatment,” police said in a statement to CityNews.

It says the occupants of the other vehicle involved were uninjured.

Images from the scene show a police vehicle with a badly-damaged front end, and a crossover SUV with a badly-damaged passenger-side door and deployed airbags, across the street.

Police say the crash is under investigation.
