24-year-old pleads guilty to manslaughter after 2022 Coquitlam stabbing

A man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the Coquitlam stabbing death of 66-year-old Terry Miller almost four years ago.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says the case goes back to February 2022, when a man was attacked near a complex on Schoolhouse Avenue north of Lougheed Highway.

Police found the victim, who was later identified as Miller, suffering from stab wounds.

He was taken to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators identified Jeffrey Stevens as a suspect in the homicide and arrested him nearly one year later. The BC Prosecution Service charged him with one count of second-degree murder.

In an update Thursday, IHIT says Stevens, now 24 years old, recently pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a B.C. court.

Stevens is expected to return to court for sentencing on March 12, 2026.

“As we await sentencing, our thoughts are with Mr. Miller’s family and those who were impacted by this tragic incident,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT.
