Richmond travel agency has licence cancelled after investigation

Customers who have booked a trip with Vegas Vacations in Richmond were left frustrated, saying they were either overcharged or never received confirmations. Now, Consumer Protection BC has cancelled the travel agency’s licence. Cecilia Hua has more.

In a rare move, provincial authorities have pulled the licence of a travel agency in Richmond.

Consumer Protection BC announced Monday it had serious concerns about Vegas Vacations, a business with a storefront in the Lansdowne Centre.

The non-profit regulator says it’s worried the travel agency didn’t have enough cash on hand to operate.

“The licence was cancelled Friday, January 9, 2026, for having insufficient capital to operate a travel service business.”

Consumer Protection BC first took action late last year, suspending the business’s licence over its failure to provide financial statements for 2024 and 2025.

Shortly after, Vegas Vacations came through with the documentation, but, on review, the regulator says there were some red flags, and pulled the licence.

In addition to the insufficient “working capital,” the regulator says its office received consumer complaints and other evidence “indicating issues with Vegas Vacation Ltd’s ability to fulfill its obligations as a travel agent.”

It says the business accepted customer funds but failed to secure the corresponding travel.

In a written statement, the Richmond RCMP says that the incident is currently under investigation.

“Our investigators are reviewing the information to determine whether any criminal offences may have occurred,” police said.

Mounties add that police are working with Consumer Protection BC, whose investigation is separate from the RCMP’s.

Consumer Protection BC is urging customers to confirm reservations made through Vegas Vacations truly have been booked.
