Police are investigating after a crash on Highway 1 in Abbotsford sent a motorcyclist to hospital in critical condition Saturday.
Emergency crews were called to the scene on the highway near Atkinson Road around 2 p.m. after a collision between a Suzuki motorcycle and a Mitsubishi RVR.
The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) says it appears both the Mitubishi and the Suzuki were travelling westbound when the motorcycle collided with the vehicle.
“The impact of the collision was such that debris was strewn across the highway, resulting in serious injuries to the motorcyclist,” said Cpl. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP.
“The driver of the Mitsubishi was not physically injured.”
The Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) says ambulances were called to the area just after 2 p.m.
“Three ambulances with primary care and advanced care paramedics responded to the scene,” PHSA said.
“Paramedics provided emergency medical treatment and transported one patient to hospital in critical condition.”
Highway 1 westbound was closed in the area for several hours. It reopened around 9 p.m.
Anyone with dash cam video or witnesses of the vehicles prior to the crash are asked to call the BCHP in Chilliwack at 604-702-4039
