Investigation ongoing one year after deadly Pattullo Bridge crash

It’s been nearly one year to the day since a crash on the Pattullo Bridge left three men dead and another person injured.

Police were first called to the scene of the crash, involving a semi-truck and two passenger vehicles, near the bridge’s east end around 10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) tells 1130 NewsRadio that the RCMP’s Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU), which is leading the file, is in the midst of initial disclosure to Crown Counsel.

“They acknowledge that it has been a year since the incident and, unfortunately, these types of files are incredibly complex and involve technical knowledge and expertise from both in-house police resources and external partners,” says SPS Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton in an emailed statement.

Investigators admit that the legal process of disclosure can have ramifications on the timeline of an investigation.

“It also requires a significant amount of time and manpower for the searching for, obtaining, and analyzing physical, digital, and forensic evidence, which also oftentimes introduces lengthy time delays in investigations,” adds Houghton.

The crash killed three men, all between the ages of 19 and 20. The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt and remained at the scene.

In March, one of the drivers involved was arrested and later released.

At the time, police said multiple factors may have played a role in the collision, including speed.

The SPS says anyone with more information to share about the crash should call them at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2025-12779.
