Man sentenced to 4 years after trying to enter Canada with undeclared firearms

A man has been handed a four-year prison sentence after being found with six undeclared firearms while trying to enter Canada at the Belleville Ferry Terminal in Victoria.

On Sept. 1, 2023, 44-year-old Reuben Velasquez declared multiple firearms as he was seeking entry to the country, but a search of his vehicle by border services officers uncovered six undeclared firearms.

The Canada Border Services Agency says because Velasquez is a foreign national, he could be subject to removal from Canada after he finishes his sentence.
