Fourth individual convicted of manslaughter, sentenced in 2023 Burnaby home-invasion homicide

Four people have been convicted and sentenced for manslaughter in connection with the 2023 death of Ryan Nagy, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says.

On June 29, 2023, Burnaby RCMP officers were called to a residence on 17th Avenue near Canada Way. When they arrived, they found 19-year-old Nagy suffering from life-threatening injuries. He died at the scene, despite life-saving efforts by emergency crews.

According to court documents, the perpetrators – three men and one woman – planned the home invasion in advance, with plans to steal firearms stored at the home. Nagy and his girlfriend were tied up, and Nagy was stabbed. His girlfriend was found nearby, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. Nagy’s father returned home and caught the perpetrators in the act.

On Sept. 1, 2026, Rhoda Diabikulu, 23 at the time of the crime, was sentenced to seven years in prison for manslaughter, after pleading guilty in March. She had already spent 12 months in custody.

The other three perpetrators — Ali Shamkhi, Rais Usman, and Ousmane Keita, all 20 years old at the time of the crime — had already been sentenced earlier this year.

On March 5, Shamkhi was sentenced to 10.5 years in prison for manslaughter and unrelated firearms offences. Usman was sentenced on April 23 to six years for manslaughter. Keita had been sentenced to six years on June 12, also for manslaughter.

All four have received lifetime firearms prohibitions and DNA orders.
