EmergencyInfoBC says there were no tsunamis or damage reported after three earthquakes were measured off B.C.’s South Coast within the last 24 hours.
Two of the quakes measured above magnitude 5.0.
Shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, a magnitude 4.9 quake was measured 170 kilometres from Port Hardy. Then, less than two hours later, a magnitude 5.4 was recorded, this time 207 km from Port Hardy.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Monday, a third quake was recorded, this one a magnitude 5.2, 166 km from Port Hardy.
There were no reports of people feeling these quakes. However, EmergencyInfoBC says those living in the region should be ready to drop and take cover should another tremor take place.
According to Climate Ready BC, there are thousands of earthquakes registered in the province, on average, every year.
“Earthquakes that are strong enough to cause structural damage occur once per decade, on average,” Climate Ready said.
Earthquakes Canada says quakes measuring a magnitude of 5.4 or lower are often felt but rarely cause damage.

While earthquakes are common off the B.C. coast, these were the largest quakes recorded in at least the past 30 days.
