The Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) says a suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with two residential break-and-enters at rural properties last month.
On Sept. 3, officers say they were called to a home on Bradner Road, north of King Road, after reports of a suspect forcibly entering a home that was occupied at the time. Police say the suspect stole several valuable items and then fled.
AbbyPD says a second break-and-enter was reported on Sept. 14, this time at a home on Montesina Avenue, west of Lefeuvre Road. Police note the second home is around two kilometres away from the site of the first incident. Once again, several valuable items were stolen before the suspect fled.
“Due to similarities between the incidents, investigators with AbbyPD’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) assumed conduct of both investigations,” police said in a news release Friday.
“Through extensive investigative efforts, CRU investigators identified a suspect believed to be responsible for both offences.”
On Sept. 15, a search warrant was executed at a home on Fraser Highway near 272 Street in Aldergrove, according to police. The suspect was arrested, and officers recovered property that had been stolen during the break-and-enters.
“Residential break-and-enters are particularly troubling, because they violate a person’s sense of safety and security in their own home,” said Sgt. Hanninen of the AbbyPD CRU.
Police say 48-year-old Bryan Barker has been charged with two counts of break and enter and one count of disguise with intent.
