Everyone gets old, even Jay and Silent Bob

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – From roles in movies like “Clerks” and “Mallrats” to the depths of drug addiction, Jason Mewes has certainly seen his share of highs and lows.

He and director Kevin Smith are in Vancouver tonight as part of their “Jay and Silent Bob Get Old” spoken word tour, which also hits Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, and Halifax this month. The trek is named after their popular podcast and promises more of the in-your-face honesty Mewes’ online audience has come to know and love.

“We’re talking about 23 years of friendship and ups and downs and so ‘Getting Old’ seemed perfect,” explains Mewes.

He admits a lot of his ups and downs came from his problems with drugs, but he’s all about clean living these days. “I’ve been sober now 621 days today and things are good, things are good. I had almost six and a half years or so [of sobriety] and then I messed up but I feel better now.”

Now happily married to his manager, Mewes is thinking hard about becoming a dad.

“My two sister-in-laws have kids that are like two years old and then my cousin has a two year old. So, we’ve been hanging out with a lot of babies and I’m really into babies right now. I would really love to have a baby right now. Kevin has a daughter already but maybe my kid can catch up [and] they can be the new Jay and Bob,” he explains.

Tonight’s show is at the Vogue Theatre in Downtown Vancouver. It starts at 8:30 p.m.
