Small wildfire east of Squamish

SQUAMISH (NEWS 1130) – The wildfire burning in the brush just off a forestry road east of Squamish has grown to almost four hectares.

The fire is out of control.

“The fire investigator is on scene and he’s checking to see if there’s any indication of the start, the cause,” says Jeanne Larson with the BC Wildfire Service.

She notes there is a power station and a trailhead near the fire.

“They’re currently not threatened. We are watching them closely and we will certainly make sure that all steps are being taken,” she tells us.

“When we have a fire burning in slash in these conditions, it’s very dry and in some cases stacked up, so it’s quite difficult to get in there and actually work it.”

Air tankers, a 20-person ground crew and heavy machinery are all working to put out the fire.
