Mike Hurley defeats Derek Corrigan in Burnaby

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Mike Hurley has been elected as Burnaby’s new mayor defeating long-time incumbent Derek Corrigan.

Preliminary results show Hurley winning with 53.24 per cent of the vote. Corrigan came in second with 41.23 per cent, while Helen Chang and Sylvia Gung 4.42 and 1.11 respectively.

He says his first priorities are allowances for laneway housing, creating a housing task force, development of moratorium in Metrotown and initiatives like CT scanners.

“I will get to work immediately,” Hurley told supporters.”Tonight I say thank you, thanks to you and to the voters of Burnaby who put their trust in me.”
