B.C. drivers won’t have to display decals on licence plates starting Sunday

British Columbians won’t have to display validation decals on licence plates for much longer. ICBC is reminding you that starting Sunday, you will have the option to take it off.

B.C.’s elimination of the colourful licence plate stickers comes after many other jurisdictions across Canada have made similar moves.

The province’s public insurer announced the change in February, along with other changes including the ability to renew policies online.

May 1 is the official launch date of online insurance renewals. However, ICBC says thousands of people have already done it because policies can be renewed up to 44 days before it expires.

Customers can also use the online system to update the drivers listed in their policy and modify how they use their vehicle.

However, changes to optional coverage and the start up of a new insurance policy cannot be done online.
