Kelowna baby recovering after possibly ingesting drugs on first birthday
Police say a baby boy in Kelowna has survived a suspected drug overdose on his first birthday after an officer administered naloxone.
Mounties say officers were called to a home along Lynrick Road near Highway 33 on Wednesday just after 2:30 p.m. for reports that a baby was unconscious and not breathing.
When officers arrived, they found a family member performing CPR on the baby on the hood of a car. Mounties were told the child had possibly ingested an unknown substance.

The baby was given Narcan and “responded well” to it, the RCMP said. They were taken to the hospital for more treatment.
“Once again this demonstrates the need for more support for those struggling with substance abuse. We at the RCMP are so grateful for the actions of the family member and all first responders who no doubt saved this child’s life,” said Cst. Mike Della-Paolera.
The Kelowna RCMP notes the child is now in the care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development. The RCMP’s Vulnerable Persons Unit is now looking into what happened.
