Vancouver crews deal with ‘stubborn’ overnight fire

Smoke and flames were seen across the city as Vancouver crews responded to an overnight house fire in the Grandview-Woodland neighbourhood.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue says the fire broke out around midnight on Saturday morning at a vacant home on McLean Drive and 1st Avenue.

Chief Karen Fry says icy and cold conditions made the second-alarm fire “stubborn” for crews.

Nobody was hurt in the fire, nor did the flames spread to any neighbouring buildings, crews say.

People posted pictures of the fire taken from afar, showing a large plume of smoke rising into the sky.

Fire crews are expected to continue investigating the blaze on Saturday morning, with 1st Avenue being closed in the area.
