B.C. man banned from teaching for life after pleading guilty to sexual assault

A B.C. high school teacher has been banned from the profession for life after the British Columbia Commissioner for Teacher Regulation says he pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault towards a young person.

After 11 years of holding a teaching licence, the Commissioner says that the unnamed teacher was suspended in 2018 when the school district reported him.

The lifetime teaching ban was issued after considering factors including “very serious misconduct that undermines public confidence in the education system.”

It adds that the “conduct spanned several months,” and the teacher had been disciplined before for “failing to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students.”

The Commissioner did not release the location or details of the school(s) involved, or the teacher’s name.
