Woman sexually assaulted at Granville SkyTrain Station, charges recommended

Vancouver police say a 25-year-old woman was sexually assaulted while riding an escalator at Granville SkyTrain Station Saturday afternoon.

The Vancouver Police Department says the woman was able to call 911, which allowed “officers to respond immediately.”

The woman was treated by BC Emergency Health Service members, but police say she was not seriously injured physically.

Police found a 26-year-old suspect nearby, and arrested them at the scene.

Police confirm they are recommending one count of sexual assault.

This latest assault comes as concerns about transit safety rise across Metro Vancouver.

The Metro Vancouver Transit Police (MTVP) says it has increased the number of officers who will be on patrol, as the MVTP is pulling officers from other departments to help out.

“Seeing more uniforms out on the system will hopefully deter more criminals from committing crimes. Again, it’s hard to predict violent, unprovoked assaults, but what we can do as police officers is empower people, passengers, on how to ensure that they’re an active participant in their safety,” MTVP Const. Amanda Steed said.
