Newborn found dead in Victoria, police concerned for mother

Police in Victoria say they’re concerned for the well-being of a mother after a newborn baby was found dead Wednesday evening.

According to the Victoria Police Department, officers were called to a parking lot along Bay Street near Douglas Street around 10 p.m.

Investigators think the baby had recently been born nearby.

“Investigators are concerned for the welfare of the mother who may need medical care and support,” VicPD said in a statement.

Anyone with information on this incident or who may know the whereabouts of the mother is asked to call the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit at 250-380-6211.
