Courtenay man found guilty of voyeurism

A B.C. judge has found a Courtenay man guilty of voyeurism after he recorded his wife with a hidden camera in an attempt to catch her cheating on him.

In his decision, the judge wrote that while the husband’s motivation for secretly recording his now-former wife was not sexual, the fact it was placed in a bedroom was enough to satisfy a charge.

He adds that a victim only has to be observed somewhere they can be expected to be naked or engaged in sexual activity for an offence to have occurred.

The man has been handed a conditional discharge and will have no criminal record if he abides by the terms of his 12-month probation.
