Potential minor flooding at high tide across Metro Vancouver this weekend, Environment Canada warns
Expect elevated water levels at high tide across Metro Vancouver this weekend, Environment Canada said in a special weather statement issued Saturday.
According to the statement, minor coastal flooding is possible on exposed shorelines throughout the region, including the Southern Gulf Island and Saanich Peninsula.
“Low barometric pressure will combine with a period of high astronomical tide to produce elevated water levels (Saturday) and Sunday,” it said. “Minor coastal flooding is possible along exposed shorelines.”
The biggest impacts will be seen in mid to late morning.
Environment Canada said this high tide does not meet the criteria for a king tide.
The agency says elevated water levels at high tide are likely to persist on Monday and Tuesday.
