Fatal Oakridge park crane incident victim identified as mother of two

The victim in a fatal crane incident at Vancouver’s Oakridge Park development on Wednesday is being identified online as a mother and loving wife.

According to a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign in her name, Yuridia Flores was killed when a crane’s load came crashing down and hit her at the construction site at Cambie and 41st avenue on Wednesday.

The fundraiser– which was started by Flores’ family– says she was a mother of two, leaving behind a 16 year old son. It says the family is looking to transport their mother to her natal city of Acapulco Guerrero.

The campaign, which was started Thursday, has already raised over 26 thousand dollars.

Capt. Matt Trudeau with Vancouver Fire Rescue Services had previously told CityNews between 1,700 and 1,800 workers in the area at the time of the incident had to be evacuated.

According to workers who spoke with CityNews Thursday, the load that fell was a construction table.

“Just something broke loose from the crane and fell … roughly about 30 stories onto a person down below,” one worker recalled of the moments the incident happened.

“The table was being pulled out and, for whatever reason, it started spinning and it hit the side of the building. Once it hit the side of the building, the … piece that holds it to the crane came loose and it fell,” another worker explained. “It fell… and it came smashing all the way down.”
