Warm start to school year forecasted for Lower Mainland

It’s looking like mostly clear skies ahead for the first week of school for most students in the Lower Mainland.

1130 NewsRadio Meteorologist Carl Lam says it will be warm and sunny weather, whether you’re spending it outside enjoying the sunshine or running around with last-minute back-to-school purchases.

“No weather concerns whatsoever today, and it’s actually quite comfortable with those highs in the low to mid-20s and just a little bit of humidity making it feel like the mid to upper-20s. But nothing that’s super unbearable. And as we go throughout the week, though, we start to turn up the heat, especially from Wednesday into Thursday and Friday as well,” said Lam.

He says by the end of the week, it might not be necessary, but Tuesday morning — the first day of school for most — a few extra layers at the bus stop couldn’t hurt.

“I’d say most areas will start the day between 11 to 14 degrees. And it’s not all that bad, but parents, you might be suggesting that the kids have a light jacket on — the kids might have other ideas. But by the afternoon, it’s still really comfortable: we’re back into the low 20s,” he said.

Through the rest of the week, Lam says, Lower Mainlanders can expect mild mornings and “plenty of warm” by the time the last bell rings in the afternoon.
