Crews knock down two back-to-back fires in Vancouver Saturday

Vancouver Fire Rescue crews were busy late Saturday afternoon, responding to two back-to-back blazes — one in a restaurant, the other in a parkade.

Assistant Fire Chief Pierre Morin says crews were called out to a restaurant on West 41st Avenue around 4:30 p.m.

When they arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the front door and ceiling, he says.

“The crew quickly knocked the fire down,” Morin said.

“We were concerned about extension into the neighboring restaurants, because they have a shared ceiling.”

Nobody was inside at the time, and the fire is suspected to have started in the kitchen.

Then a few minutes later, crews were called out to a car fire in a parkade on West Georgia.

“They were able to find a car on fire on the seventh [floor],” Morin said. “Fire was knocked down.”
