Mission Superstore reopens after toilet paper aisle fire

A Mission grocery store that was set on fire last Tuesday as reopened its doors.

In a Facebook post, the city’s only Superstore attributes the speedy recovery to round-the-clock work over the past few days.

The Mission RCMP says the fire started in the toilet paper aisle and caused significant damage and smoke.

Shortly after the fire, Corp. Harrison Mohr of the Mission RCMP said the damage was “widespread and significant throughout the store.”

Initially, police weren’t able to confirm the fire was the result of arson.

“Although it may seem obvious that a fire in a toilet paper aisle must have been intentionally set, investigators needed time to confirm there was no other possible source of ignition, such as from an electrical fault,” Mounties said at the time.

Two days after the fire, police confirmed it was investigating the incident as arson.

They say a person of interest has come forward and is now cooperating with police.
