The Vancouver Canadians are NWL Champions

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver had a five-run seventh inning which blew open a 3-1 game, as the Canadians went on to blast the Tri-City Dust Devils 9-2 in the third and deciding game of the Northwest League Final.

It was the first time the Class-A, short season version of the Canadians has captured a championship. Vancouver made the final but lost in 2004 and 2005.

The C’s Jonathon Berti kicked off the seventh inning with a solo home run. DH Balbino Fuenmayor also had a two-run triple in the big seventh inning. Both players had a pair of r-b-i.

Jesse Hernandez was a force on the mound for Vancouver, as the right-handed starter struck out nine Dust Devils in six innings of work.

The Triple-A version of the Vancouver Canadians won the 1999 Pacific Coast League title.
