Cyclists return to Vancouver after two month trek

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Two Vancouverites are returning home after being away for more than two months on a cancer fundraising cycle.

John Lowe and George Chan dipped their bike wheels into the Atlantic Ocean on June 1st and have almost made it to Victoria at Mile Zero on their Journey for Hope tour.

Lowe says this cross-country journey has meant a lot to both of them, as they’re both cancer survivors.

“George had Stage 4 lymphoma cancer. I had cancer twice in my life,” he explains. “I lost my kidney to cancer.”

Although the terrain and weather could be unforgiving at times for the pair of grandfathers, Lowe tells us Canadians everywhere have been cheering them on, “particularly in Newfoundland, when we first started.

“It was three degrees and a lot of wind. People put us in hotels; they provided meals for us,” he explains.

The duo has raised more than $10,000, which they’ll drop off at the BC Cancer Foundation tomorrow.
