VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A man serving five life sentences in a Fraser Valley correctional facility for murder, kidnapping and robbery has a parole hearing today.
The family of one of his victims is here from Alberta fighting to keep Paul Morgan behind bars.
In 1995, Morgan escaped from an Ontario prison and kidnapped Judy Davey’s 72-year old mother, Helen Donald.
“He choked her again and put her under a table, apparently. He says he put one wood pallet on top of her. Mom says she was covered with wood pallets and dirt and she was left in -27 weather,” she says.
Davey says Morgan was charged with kidnapping instead of attempted murder because her parents were in no shape to testify.
Her father had suffered two heart attacks.
“By mom not going to court, he could come up for parole in ten years rather than no parole,” she says.
She says they decided to come to the parole meeting not only for their mother, but because Morgan has broken out of prison twice and always attacks women.
Along with attacking her mother, Morgan murdered and then set fire to a young girl who was pregnant.
“He should never be allowed out of maximum security because every time he gets a chance, he will break out, and somebody else will get hurt. No family should go through, what we’ve been through,” Davey adds.
It’s believed Morgan, who’s in his fifties, wants to go to Kelowna if he’s released but was told only a Vancouver halfway house would take him.
