Neighbours complain about PNE garbage

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – People who live close to the Fair at the PNE are seeing a lot of garbage floating around and they’re starting to get frustrated.

Fair staff patrol the area but some neighbours say it doesn’t seem to be enough.

Gerry Deagle lives across from the PNE and spends a lot of his time picking up people’s old cans, wrappers, and other leftovers.

“People drop their trash–like those two cans–who do you suppose is going to pick them up? I will,” he says.

“Every week I have to go out with my [bag] and pick up trash.”

He hopes fairgoers will respect people in the area and stop leaving their trash behind.

The PNE’s Laura Ballance says they send out crews to pick up garbage daily.

“A lot of times it’s actually not PNE garbage, we do pick up a lot from the surrounding businesses, but we’re more than happy to do that. We want to be a good neighbour.”

Some people who live in the area say they hope the City of Vancouver can put out more trash and recycle bins.

Deagle’s message to fairgoers is clear: respect peoples’ homes, and don’t throw your litter on the ground.
