CLINTON (NEWS1130) – The province’s biggest wildfire near Clinton has grown slightly because of gusty conditions.
Jenny Fremlin with the Cariboo Fire Centre says despite the growth, firefighters were able to start containing the fire. “Thanks to hard work from crews, equipment, and aircraft yesterday, this fire is now 20 per cent contained. We had some higher wind… which contributed a bit to the growth.”
She adds the fire is now over 400 hectares.
“Temperatures will be in the mid-teens and humidity will be a little higher. There is a slight chance for some precipitation as well, which should aid in fire suppression efforts. However, there are some gusty winds predicted for the afternoon,” she explains.
About 120 firefighters are battling the blaze at Big Bar Creek.
