OTTAWA, ON (NEWS1130) – Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada is advising travellers to avoid non-essential travel to areas in the path of Tropical Storm Isaac.
The United States National Hurricane Centre in Miami has issued advisories for Isaac, which is forecast to become a hurricane when it comes ashore — possibly later tomorrow.
Areas included in the warning are: northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico, east of Morgan City, Louisiana to Indian Pass, Florida, including metropolitan New Orleans, Lake Ponchartrain and Lake Maurepas.
Canadians travelling to those areas are being advised to monitor local news and weather reports, follow the advice of local authorities and contact their travel agent to determine whether the situation will disrupt travel arrangements.
So far no flights out of Canada heading to Florida have been cancelled.
