VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canadians begin defending their Northwest League title this afternoon at Nat Bailey Stadium against the Everett AquaSox. It is game one of the best of three West Division Final.

The AquaSox are the Seattle Mariners‘ farm club. The C’s are in their second year as part of the Toronto Blue Jays‘ system.

In the short Single A season, Vancouver’s Clayton McCullough was named Northwest League Manager of the Year. Short stop Jorge Flores and right handed pitcher Javier Avendano were named to the Northwest League All-Star Team.

The AquaSox are led by sluggers Patrick Kivlehan, the league’s most valuable player and all-star third baseman, and Taylor Ard, the all-star first baseman.

Everett won the first half pennant with a 28-10 record, while Vancouver was third, at 22-15. Vancouver took the second half title after posting a 24-15 going into Saturday, while Everett was third.

The two teams split their six meetings in the second half of the season.

First pitch is tossed just after 1 p.m.

The series moves to Everett for Tuesday and, if necessary, Wednesday.
