VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A pollster says BC NDP leader Adrian Dix might want to think about providing a few more specifics to voters about what he will do if he’s elected as premier next year.
“For the last few months it’s been a little bit of a free ride,” says Mario Canseco with Angus Reid. “They’ve been coasting on the low numbers of the Clark Liberals and now there is a chance to define that specific policy they want to do.”
The latest public opinion poll from Angus Reid shows the BC Liberals picking up support for the first time since January; but they still trail the NDP by more than 20 points.
Twenty-five per cent of those surveyed said they would vote Liberal, while support for the NDP sits at 46 per cent. Canseco tells us although Dix’s lead is comfortable, he still has to attract undecided voters.
“[People are saying] ‘Adrian Dix might seem like a nice guy but I haven’t heard him talk a lot about issues,'” explains Canseco. “Christy Clark might be someone you don’t like but maybe you’re not really happy with the NDP of the ’90s, so define yourselves instead of defining the other guy. That’s the key.”
The BC Conservatives sit at 19 per cent support.
