VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Whitecaps continue their two-week break from the Major League Soccer schedule but two Whitecaps players will be playing for their countries while the team rests.
Striker Kenny Miller and forward Dane Richards have both been called up for games in FIFA World Cup qualifying. Miller will join Scotland for games against Wales on Friday and Belgium on Tuesday night. Scotland is attempting to claim top spot in Group A and assure their nation’s place in the World Cup for the first time since 1998.
Richards joins his native Jamaica for their final round of World Cup qualifying, with the next few days crucial to the Reggae Boyz’ chances. Jamaica, which also hasn’t been to the World Cup since France 1998 has critical matches against Guatemala Friday night and Antigua and Barbuda next Tuesday.
The Whitecaps return to the field Sunday October 21st when they host the Portland Timbers. Vancouver is closing in on clinching the first-ever MLS playoff spot by a Canadian side.
