VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – Dissidents in the BC Conservative Party can expect to receive disciplinary letters later this week, and they may be terminated.
President Al Siebring says the party’s board met over the weekend and decided to send letters to 15 people.
“There are various types of discipline. Some of them involve letters of censure, where we basically say we’re very unhappy with the actions. Some of them involve dismissal from the party.”
However, Siebring isn’t saying how many members were dismissed, nor is he naming names.
“We’re not going to talk about who these letters are going to, or what the substance of the letters is with respect to individuals. That’s an internal party matter.”
Siebring says the board also took steps to address concerns within the party. It acknowledged complaints about poor communications within the party and has created a unity committee. It also voted to re-affirm its support for leader John Cummins.
This afternoon, the dissident faction of the party sent a news release informing they met on the weekend. The group wants the party’s Constituency Association Board to hold a special general meeting, and ask Cummins to step down.
