SAN FRANCISCO, CA (NEWS1130) – The San Francisco Giants brought an 0-3 record at home in the 2012 post-season into Game 2 of the National League Championship Series, but they ended the slump with a 7-1 victory over St. Louis.
The Giants levelled the series at a game a piece after the Cardinals took Game 1 on Sunday.
Things got off to a fiery start, as Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday took out Giants shortstop Marco Scutaro with a hard slide as he tried to break up a double play in the first inning.
In the bottom of the first, the Giants opened the scoring with an Angel Pagan solo home run off of St. Louis starter Chris Carpenter.
Carpenter would get the run back himself in the top of the second as he brought home Pete Kozma with a double.
San Francisco took the lead for good in the fourth, as Brandon Crawford hit a chopper to the right side which plated Brandon Belt. Then with the bases loaded and two outs, Scutaro got his revenge as he belted a two-run single, and then a third run came home to score as Holliday misplayed the ball in left field.
Scutaro would end up leaving in the fifth inning with a hip injury and was replaced with Ryan Theriot.
In the eighth inning, Theriot made his presence felt as he knocked in a pair of runs with a bases-loaded single.
Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong was fantastic, giving up just one run on four hits in seven innings of work. He recorded four strikeouts and two walks.
The two teams will now head east for Game 3 on Wednesday in St. Louis.
