Nash ready to make Lakers debut

LOS ANGELES, CA (NEWS1130) – Despite going 0-8 in the NBA pre-season, Victoria’s Steve Nash is excited to make his first start for the Lakers, as LA opens the NBA season against Dallas. Nash played five seasons for the Mavs.

More recently, he spent eight years with Phoenix and won two MVP trophies with the Suns. He was one of the most popular athletes ever in the valley of the sun.

The 16-year-veteran signed a three-year, 27 million dollar deal with LA in the off-season and after practice on Monday, he said he is looking forward to tip off.

“I’m excited. You know it’s a great opportunity for us to open the season at home, my first game as a Laker and I’m excited to experience that and get it out of the way and hopefully get a win.”

The Lakers did not post a win in the pre-season. The teams had some injuries, as superstars Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant have both missed games during the exhibition season.

Bryant may miss the opener because of a strain in his right foot, and Nash says they have to be ready to go for the opener, even without Bryant.

“I think with or without him, we have our work cut out for us. So if he plays, obviously great, if he doesn’t we have to come together and have a great performance.”

Despite playing three games in the first four nights of the season, Nash is hoping to take in the playoff game of the soccer team he is part owner of, Whitecaps FC. Vancouver plays the Galaxy in Carson, California on Thursday night.

Rookie Centre Robert Sacre of North Vancouver has also made the LA roster.
