NEW ORLEANS, LA (NEWS1130) – Drew Brees extended his streak of games with a touchdown pass to 51 as he tossed a pair of major scores and the New Orleans Saints kept their season alive by beating the Philadelphia Eagles 28-13.
Brees connected for touchdowns with Marques Colston and Jimmy Graham to keep his NFL-record streak going.
The scoring was opened late in the first quarter with the Eagles first trip to the red-zone of the game. Michael Vick’s pass to the endzone was picked off by Patrick Robinson and returned 99 yards for a touchdown, tying a Saints franchise record.
After Philadelphia got on the board early in the second quarter with the first of two Alex Henery field goals, New Orleans made it a 14-3 game thanks to a Chris Ivory 22-yard touchdown run.
With just over a minute left in the first half, Brees found Colston in the endzone from the 1-yard line to make it 21-3 for the Saints heading into the break.
The second half got off to a rough start for the home team. After receiving the opening kick-off, the Saints lost the ball on a fumble, which set up a 77-yard touchdown catch and run from DeSean Jackson, cutting New Orleans’ lead to 21-10.
On the ensuing kick-off the Eagles got the ball back, once again on a Saints fumble. That led to Henery’s second field goal, pulling Philadelphia within eight points.
Brees and the Saints would seal the victory when he connected with Graham late in the third quarter.
In four trips to the red-zone, the Eagles had one interception, one fumble, and two field goals.
The win kept any post-season hopes alive for the Saints as they improved to 3-5, while the loss dropped Philadelphia to the same record.
