Potential progress being made in NHL negotiations

By

TORONTO, ON (NEWS1130) – There have been over 300 games lost in the NHL lockout but there may now be some renewed hope of somehow salvaging the season.

“The one thing that is being preached at the NHLPA level is that patience is a virtue, you have to sit back and wait,” Sportsnet’s Brad May commented. “You have to get all the information before you get excited.”

And there may actually be something to get excited about. After that marathon meeting between the two sides on Saturday and Sunday morning, they’re planning to return to the bargaining table on Tuesday in New York.

Apparently the talks included good frank discussion on the most important issues separating the league and its players.

This represents a serious change in protocol from the last few months, when the two sides rarely sat down together for more than an hour or two at a time.

The average salary lost every hour during this lockout is over $478,000, adding up to more than $200-million so far.

The NHL has cancelled all games until November 30th, including the Winter Classic on January 1st.
