VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Sam Reinhart secured a 1-0 shootout win for the WHL versus Russia in their super series game. Goalies Laurent Brossoit of the WHL and Russia’s Andrei Makarov earned shutouts through 60 minutes.

Brossoit is a BC boy who plays for Edmonton. He made 30 saves. Makarov stopped 35 shots. The Russian plays for the Saskatoon Blades.

In regulation time, the game featured big hits and plenty of scoring chances in front of 11,124 fans at the Pacific Coliseum.

The teams did not play overtime and went straight to a five-round shootout. Brossoit made three saves, including one off of 2012 NHL overall draft pick Nail Yakupov. Hunter Shinkaruk, Mark McNeill and Reinhart scored for the WHL.

It was the Russian squad’s fifth game in ten nights.

The Canadian junior teams have a 3-2 edge in the series. The cross-country series wraps up in Victoria on Thursday night.
