VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Thomas Foster scored in the seventh round of the shootout as the Vancouver Giants edged the Regina Pats in front of over 9,600 fans at the Pacific Coliseum. Kale Kessy scored two of the Giants’ goals in regulation.
Vancouver jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a Trevor Cheek marker late in the first period and a Kyle Kessy goal just before the five-minute mark of the middle period.
The Pats battled back twice in the game.
Kessy’s second of the game came short-handed, just past the seven-minute mark of the third period to give Vancouver the lead 3-2.
In the last minute, with the goalie pulled, playing six-on-four, Morgan Klimchuk tied the game at 3-3 for the visitors.
After overtime, the shootout went seven rounds, with Thomas Foster netting the game winner. Emil Sylvegard could not get a shot off on Regina’s final attempt. Vancouver’s Payton Lee stopped five shots in the break away competition.
Vancouver played its first game since finding out leading scorer Marek Tvrdon would miss the remainder of the season. The Red Wings’ draft pick is out for the season, after having surgery Monday for a blood clot in his left shoulder.
The Giants play in Everett on Saturday.
