Cam Newton leads Panthers over Eagles

PHILADELPHIA, PA (NEWS1130) – Quarterback Cam Newton threw a pair of touchdowns and ran two scores in himself as the Carolina Panthers topped the Philadelphia Eagles 30-22 on Monday Night Football. Both teams are now 3-8.
The loss was the seventh in a row for Philadelphia after starting the season 3-1. It’s the longest losing streak for the Eagles during Andy Reid’s tenure as head coach. He began in the role in 1999.
After Alex Henery booted a 36-yard field goal to open the scoring for the Eagles, Newton took charge. The second-year quarterback connected with Gary Barnidge on a 24-yard touchdown and then hit Brandon LaFell for a 43-yard score as he threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter of a game for the first time in his career.
The Eagles found their rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring Carolina 12-0. Henery kicked his second field goal of the game, before rookie running back Bryce Brown exploded for a 65-yard run to the endzone. Philadelphia went for the two-point conversion, which would have tied the game, but fell short. Henery kicked a third field goal to put the Eagles up 15-14 at half-time.
Just over five minutes into the third quarter, Newton capped off an 11-play, 95-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run, but Brown answered back late in the quarter with a five-yard run for his second score of the night.
In the fourth quarter, Graham Gano kicked his first field goal of the game to put the Panthers up 24-22. Newton would extend the lead with his second touchdown run of the game, but Gano missed the extra point, which kept the Eagles within one score.
Carolina would seal the win on the ensuing kickoff, as they forced a fumble and recovered the ball.
Brown set an Eagles rookie record with 178 yards.
