Avalanche warning for Sea to Sky area

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS1130) – A heavy snowfall has led to the first avalanche warning of the season for the Sea to Sky area.
The danger rating is now “high” in the alpine and “considerable” at tree-line level.
Shannon Warner with the Canadian Avalanche Centre warns if you’re heading out into the mountains, you should use extra caution and avoid avalanche-prone areas.
“The reason for that is the weather pattern right now,” she explains. “A big punch of moisture is coming through the Sea to Sky area today. We’re expecting quite a bit of snow at higher elevations, with the freezing levels being around1,500 metres and quite a lot of wind.”
The Coast Range will see more heavy snow through today and tomorrow.
Warner notes the warning extends “over the next couple of days, depending on how much moisture we really get out of this system.”
“As the weather starts to settle down a bit and we receive less snow and wind, then the snowpack will tend to settle out and the danger rating should start to fall,” she tells us.
