ICBC’s unionized employees approve new deal

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – After several months of job action, ICBC’s unionized employees have approved a new deal.

Unionized workers at ICBC have voted 71 per cent in favour of a new contract.

The deal gives employees a four percent pay raise, staggered over the length of the agreement. The deal, which expires in July 2014, also includes improvements to maternity and parental leave.

COPE local 378 President David Black says the deal promises a workload study at ICBC, the first such study in nearly 20 years.

Black says his members are struggling under crushing workloads and under the new agreement the two sides can start to fix that problem.

ICBC’s board will vote on it later in the week.

The deal would take the 4,600 employees up to July 2014.

As part of their job action earlier this year, workers refused to work overtime and there had been a few one-day strikes.
