COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – Thanks to an expansion in the Tri-Cities, Operation Red Nose is seeing some record-breaking numbers this holiday season. One of the reasons usage of the service is up is because more people know about it.
Chris Wilson with the program thinks more people are turning to them because it’s safe and convenient.” I think first of all, people are realizing there’s no good excuse to drink and drive anymore, especially with a program like Operation Red Nose that allows you to get you and your car home safely.”
And Wilson adds the ongoing message of don’t drink and drive may actually be sinking in for some people. “You know, our numbers are double they were last year. Having the police out there doing their work is very important and also just provides a reminder to people they shouldn’t be drinking and driving.”
The service runs on donations and this year they’re up a couple extra thousand dollars.
They’d like to expand the rides to other cities, but they need volunteers.
