Fire forces dozen from their Vancouver home

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – More than a dozen people have been pushed out of their home for the holidays thanks to an early morning fire.

Randy Finchman with the Vancouver Police Department says the ground floor of the London Hotel on Main Street near Union Street is damaged.

“It is a tough time of year, with the cold weather and the rain, with people on the street that we’re currently trying to find housing for, this does put some strain on the system to find housing for another 18 people that, unfortunately, are left out in the cold.”

He says the fire which happened at about 6:30 a.m. isn’t suspicious.

No one was seriously hurt, but a 56-year-old did get treated for smoke inhalation.
