Avalanche rating “considerable”

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The avalanche rating is going up on the North Shore mountains.
Over the past few days, the North Shore mountains have seen 50cm of snow. The new storm slabs of snow have been touchy, but are settling and bonding.
The rating is now “considerable” above the treeline, meaning there are dangerous avalanche conditions. Those thinking about heading into the back-country are asked to carefully evaluate their route and make thoughtful, wary decisions.
Below the treeline, the rating is “moderate,” meaning the danger of an avalanche is heightened on specific routes. Snow and terrain needs to be carefully evaluated before venturing out.
Experts say if you don’t have a lot of experience or don’t have avalanche training, it would be best to stay on well-traveled paths.
