Police chase ends with an arrest

SURREY (NEWS1130) – A police cruiser was hit during a car chase that spanned Surrey and New Westminster Thursday night.

A man, in a white van, tried evading police by racing across the Pattullo Bridge and then leaving the vehicle before being tracked down by a search dog.

RCMP Staff Sergeant Blair McColl tells us no one was hurt during the crash with a police cruiser. “Initially it had backed into one of our police cars and then fled. The driver has been taken into custody and faces numerous charges.”

“He abandoned the vehicle in New Westminster and a police dog tracked and found him hiding in the area right around the house where the car was abandoned,” McColl adds.

Several callers to our newsroom witnessed the chase.. with some saying they were pushed off the road while crossing the Pattullo Bridge.
