Giants try to end three-game slide

KAMLOOPS (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Giants will play the second game of their post-Christmas schedule as they’ll take on the division-leading Kamloops Blazers. The Giants fell 5-3 to the Kelowna Rockets yesterday.

The teams will be meeting for the third time this season. The Blazers won the first two contests as they took a 2-1 victory at home on Nov. 24, and a 4-1 win in Vancouver on Dec. 9.

The Giants (9-26-0) sit in last-place in the WHL standings and have lost three straight games, while Kamloops (25-20-4) leads the BC Division and is behind only the Portland Winterhawks overall. The Blazers have struggled recently and have three losses and an overtime defeat in their past four games.

Kamloops will be without one of its top scorers as JC Lipon is playing with Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championship in Ufa, Russia. Lipon’s linemate Colin Smith leads the WHL in scoring with 64 points (26 goals, 38 assists).

Following tonight’s game, the Giants will return home to host the Prince George Cougars on Sunday.

Puck drop tonight is 7 p.m.
