Skier gets rescued from Hollyburn Mountain

WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A back-country skier who got hurt and stuck on Hollyburn Mountain on the North Shore is expected to be okay.
Doug Pope with North Shore Rescue says a man in his fifties was with others but couldn’t get out after hurting his knee.
“We had 15 members that came up to the Cypress Nordic area and were transported by snowmobile up the mountain as far as the snowmobiles could take us. The members assessed his injury and stabilized his knee. By a combination of walking and basically butt sliding and were able to get him back down and transport him out that way, “he explains.
“The weather wasn’t conducive to using the helicopter so we just had it on standby.”
He points out the group was well-prepared for the elements.
“They had proper equipment and they had their own self rescue gear. They didn’t do anything wrong but it was just really an unfortunate injury that they needed help with.”
A few weeks ago a young skier died after a serious fall in that same area.
